FIRE & EVACUATION PROCEDURE

Purpose:
To ensure the ultimate safety of the Hotel's Guests and Employees.

Procedure:
Training
All employees and new starters must attend the hotels fire and emergency procedure training on a regular base.
All employees and new starters must attend the Departmental fire and emergency procedure training on a regular base.
All engineering staff is to carry out regular "job specific" emergency drill training, to ensure the correct procedure is followed in a case of an emergency.
All engineering staff must participate in the Hotels regular evacuation drills, and be aware of their role in an emergency situation
All engineering staff must be trained in how to use fire extinguishers.
All engineering staff must be trained and have a good knowledge of the Hotel's firefighting appliances.
In any emergency situation, all engineering staff must follow the guidelines laid down in the Hotel's emergency procedures.
Fire Prevention
Chief Engineer and Duty Engineer on Duty must attend the weekly testing of the fire alarm system and record the event in the fire log book.
All engineers must report immediately any defective firefighting equipment.
Report immediately any person seen tapering or playing with any firefighting equipment.
Observe the Hotel's smoking on duty policy.
Ensure all fire exits; fire doors and emergency passageways are free from obstructions at all times.
Ensure all plant room; riser cupboard and hazardous area doors are kept locked shut at all times.
Duty Engineers are to perform weekly preventive maintenance inspections and tests on all life safety and firefighting equipment and record the event in the log book.
Duty Engineers are to perform monthly preventive maintenance inspections and tests on the kitchen gas shut off systems and hood suppression systems.
Respond as priority, any reports from housekeeping or any other department any worn or defective wiring on appliances or equipment that may endanger life or cause an outbreak of fire. If for any reason you are unable to carry out the repairs immediately, then the appliance or piece of equipment is to be isolated from the power supply and reported to the Chief Engineer or Manager on Duty.
