KITCHEN GROOMING


Purpose 

Our image and how we present ourselves to our guests is naturally very important as this reflects the image of the hotel.  Looking good and having pride in our appearance also helps us feel good and build our self-confidence.  Remember:  the “first impression is a lasting impression”.  To meet the industry standard required for 5 star hotels and to comply with Occupational Health & Safety Regulations, please follow the guidelines set out below:



Policy

To ensure that all staffs wear grooming and attire is in compliance to the hotel standard requirement. 


Male

Uniform

  • Clean, well pressed and well fitted;Not torn or buttons missing – no visible flaws;

  •  Not to be worn outside the Hotel, except on official Hotel business;    

  • Worn in compliance with the department standard.

  • Appropriate undergarments must be worn – e.g. no black under white.


Hair

  • Conservative and neat in style;

  • Clean;

  • Hair above the collar, no pony tails;

  • No severe styles, not less than a No. 2;

  • Side burns should not be below half of the earlobe;

  • Fringe not below the eyebrow;

  • Conservative use of hair spray/gel/waxes;Conservative hair colour, with no obvious regrowth;Kitchen staff must use a cap when in the kitchen.


  • Conservative and neat in style, no extreme styles;

  • Clean and neatly combed;

  • Off the face and off the shoulder at all times;

  • Long hair to be tied back with black conservative ties provided by hotel;

  • Fringe not below the eyebrow;          

  • Conservative use of hair spray/gel/waxes;

  • Conservative hair colour, with no obvious regrowth;

  • Kitchen staff must use a cap when in the kitchen

Hands

  • Fingernails must be clean and well maintained;


  • Hands must be clean

  • Nail varnish, if worn, must be clear or subtle in shade and not chipped; F&B staff may only wear clear polish.

  • Hands must be clean.


Shoes / Hosiery

  • Provided by hotel

  • Must be clean, well-polished and in good repair;

  • Soles of shoes must be non-slip;

  • Plain black socks to be worn;

  • No holes or motifs on socks.


  • All shoes must be well heeled and polished at all times, with non-slip soles;

  • No tears or ladders;



Face / Makeup

  • Clean;

  • No makeup;

  • Shave daily, immediately prior to the commencement of the rostered shift;

  • Natural smile

  • No facial hair is permitted.

  • Clean;

  • Light visible makeup – applied tastefully and elegantly to enhance natural features;

  • Lipstick – no extreme shades;

  • Mascara – black or brown only;

  • No false eyelashes;

  • Natural smile.


Jewellery

  • One business watch, plain in style; Large or brightly coloured watches are not acceptable; Rings are restricted to a wedding ring or one dress ring.  Rings should not be large or obtrusive;

  • One bracelet and one visible chain are permitted for Front Office, no chains or bracelets for F&B or Housekeeping;

  • No earrings;

  • Belt must be black and plain in design.  No large buckles.


  • One business watch, plain in style.  Large or brightly coloured watches are not acceptable;

  • Rings are restricted to a wedding and/or engagement ring or one dress ring.  Rings should not be large or obtrusive;

  • One bracelet and one visible chain are permitted for Front Office, no chains or bracelets for F&B or Housekeeping;

  • Earrings restricted to one pair of stud or clip on earrings – gold, silver, pearl or diamond as a matching pair with one in each ear lobe.


Perfume / Aftershave

  • No overpowering aftershave or scents.

  • Subtle perfume and fragrances only.


Tattoos

  • No visible tattoos.

  • No visible tattoos.


General Appearance


  • Fresh breath, no “smokers breath”;

  • Daily shower, use antiperspirant/deodorant;

  • Glasses, if worn, must have conservative frames;

  • Contact lenses, if worn, must be conservative, no bright colours;

  • Ears and nose must be clean;No visible body piercing.
